Awarding Winning Metal Garden Furniture Chelsea Flower Show 2012
Outside Edge has exhibited aluminium patio furniture at this prestigious exhibition for over 15 years. We had previously won the ‘Highly Commended’ award on 2 occasions and in May 2012 we received the top trade stand award, the Order of Merit for outstanding presentation. This was a true accolade as in 2012 the Royal Horticultural Society only awarded seven Order of Merits, which were selected from 400 eligible trade stands in that year.
Initial Conception Garden Furniture Chelsea
In 2010, Outside Edge was approached by a licensing agent on behalf of Raymond Blanc, the famous restauranter and 2 Michelin star chef. Raymond Blanc wished to design a range of metal garden furniture for his celebrated restaurant and hotel, Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons.
Raymond Blanc wanted to create metal outdoor tables and chairs to enable his guests to dine alfresco in his stunning gardens at Le Manoir. Eventually a range of patio furniture was designed and we used aluminium, stainless steel, granite and textaline to manufacture Raymond’s unique designs.
Raymond Blanc Range Of Metal Garden Furniture Chelsea
The world famous chef has been awarded 2 Michelin stars at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons every year since 1984. Raymond Blanc is not only a fantastic chef, he designed and renovated the interior of La Manoir and of course the wonderful gardens.
Working with our R & D team, Raymond Blanc designed a contemporary range of aluminium garden furniture specifically for Le Manoir.
“It is well known that I can cook. But what is less known is that I also enjoy creating a comfortable and beautiful environment for my guests to celebrate a special moment in their lives – as I have done for the last 27 years. With the luxuriant gardens of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in the forefront of my mind, I designed this garden furniture with Outside Edge. This process lasted over 2 years. As is the case with the ingredients for all my dishes, I have used the best materials to design the most comfortable and stylish outdoor furniture. I am proud of its design, shape and textures, the way the black granite merges with the smooth powder-coated steel. My aim was to create a range that was quietly modern, elegant and long lasting. I invite you to come, view and use the collection here at Le Manoir.”
The range consists of metal garden chairs, outdoor aluminium benches, round and elliptical granite topped tables and sun loungers.
Manufacturing Process Garden Furniture Chelsea
We produced several prototypes which were flown over from South Africa. Raymond inspected his new metal outdoor furniture, many changes were made and production eventually commenced after two years of development.
As the results were so good, it was decided that Outside Edge would launch the Raymond Blanc range of aluminium garden furniture at the Chelsea show in 2012. Raymond was thrilled and offered to be on the stand on VIPs day.
It was decided that we would recreate a part of Le Manoir at Chelsea and we even appointed a Cotswold stone bricklayer to build the structure at the back of the stand.
Authentic Design Garden Furniture Chelsea
To make the build authentic we included the following in the design.
- cotswold stone floor
- cotswold stone front elevation
- real mullioned windows supplied by Redwood Stone (http://www.redwoodstone.co.uk)
- antique front door
- Le Manoir plants and flowers on the window sills
- Le Manoir lavender positioned around the stand
- metal garden furniture from the Le Manoir gardens
The Royal Horticultural Society’s judges were duly impressed and they awarded Outside Edge the Order of Merit. The stand was visited by many celebrities and members of the press during VIP day. Sales were strong and from a PR perspective the Show was a great success.
The stand took 10 days to build and 2 days to remove!
