Winter 2024 is just around the corner, so it’s the perfect time to begin preparing our gardens for the chilly season ahead. As winter approaches, it’s important to get your garden furniture ready to ensure it lasts and looks good for many years to come.
Start by cleaning each piece thoroughly to remove dirt, leaves, and debris that may have built up during use over the warmer months. Use a mild dish soap solution along with a soft cloth or sponge to prevent scratching the surfaces.
Applying a protective sealant to wooden furniture is an effective way to shield it from moisture, which can prevent warping and assist in prolonging of its lifespan. This treatment creates a barrier that not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps maintain its structural integrity over time.
Our metal furniture is crafted from aluminium, which means it won’t rust like other metal furniture or accessories you might have in your garden. However, it’s a good idea to address any rust on those other items before winter arrives. Taking the time to remove the rust and applying an anti-rust solution can go a long way in protecting your furniture.
Rattan furniture is crafted from durable 5mm or 10mm polypropylene weave which is built to endure various weather conditions. However, some rattan types are chalk-based and may deteriorate when exposed to moisture. To maintain all furniture during winter, no matter the material it’s best to cover it to keep it dry throughout the colder months.
After cleaning and ensuring that your furniture is dry, think about where you plan to store it. If you have space in a shed, garage, or in your home, that’s the best place to protect your items from the weather. Alternately if you do not have space for all the furniture, we highly recommend that cushions are stored in a dry spot to avoid mould. If you are leaving your set outside a weather proof cover is advised to add an extra layer of protection.
Lastly, take a moment to check for any repairs needed before the next garden season. Look for loose screws, cracked wood, or rust spots that could get worse over the winter. Fixing these issues now will save you time and hassle when spring comes.
