Garden Furniture Trends
Ever since the success of the TV series Mad Men, everyone wants to wear clothes like the beautiful people of the 1950s and live in 50s style houses. Vintage is in and touches every part of our lives at the moment, so for the ultimate in retro style just step outside. Biettina Pudwell, export manager, EMU Outdoor Furniture Division Group spa, says: ” We are always working on new styles for 2014 (and 2015) and vintage is definitely the ‘buzz word’ at the moment.” What are the garden furniture trends at the moment?
When quizzed about garden furniture trends, Hans Plob of Geschaftsfuhrer GmBH confirms: ” Our vintage range made of teak wood from Java is sourced from old fishing boats, and we make garden benches cabinets, table and chairs – sales are very strong at the moment in this area.”
Is Teak Wood Making A Come Back?
A very elegant and exquisite material of the late 1950s is teak wood which is timeless in it’s beauty and practicability, this raw material is experiencing a 2nd spring where furniture designers are adapting the wood with a modern twist.
Chris Bachmann, Garden Furniture Trends supremo at Traditional Teak states: ” High quality teak has an oil in it’s cells that not only makes the material tactile and warm but also the natural oils repel the elements. But this is only true for grade A teak which is over 25 years old before it is harvested and of course the wood must be dried properly.”
Aluminium and rattan are also being used to manufacture all types of outdoor furniture, these two raw materials are easily adapted to any design shape or size. The porch swing or swinging hammock is very fashionable again, in the 1950s this product was was almost compulsory in the garden, it brought a bit of movie chic to the garden and made people dream of relaxing on a sexy beach.
Today swinging chairs are modern in design and made to high quality standards. The swing bench can now be larger with higher cushions and reclining backs, in fact they are now more like day beds. If rocking on moving furniture makes you feel a little bit queasy then just go for the normal outdoor rattan sofas, this year they are even more comfortable and add all of the advantages of indoor furniture to your garden room.
