With Mother’s Day coming this weekend, we thought we’d shared our garden inspired gift ideas, something to complement that lovely metal patio furniture that you’ve bought from us perhaps?
Gift Ideas – Creature Comforts
It’s a very good time of year to think about providing shelter for wildlife as birds start to think about nesting in time for the breeding season. There are any number of bird houses that might make a charming gift for a nature lover, here are a couple of our favourites.
The Eva Solo https://www.amara.com/products/white-nesting-box
Gift Ideas – This is a very clever ultra modern glossy white ceramic and plastic nesting box. The clever design features a lid with a built-in ladder and four different entry hole sizes in order to attract a variety of new birds. The reflective surface helps to maintain temperatures within and it comes with straps so it can be easily attached to a tree or screwed to any vertical surface.
Another bird house with a modernist slant is the Elegance Small Bird Nestbox from Not on the High Street. With its whiff of Scandi design, this triangular number is constructed in FSC timber, painted in a ‘seagrass’ water-based paint.
And it is not just birds that enjoy bespoke living quarters. A quick peruse of crafting site etsy.co.uk reveals the Denver Door Toad House. Toads can be a gardener’s best friend – devouring over 100 slugs and other garden pests a day. Since they are nocturnal, they need somewhere fairly dark and cool in which to hide during the day. The Toad House is made from unglazed caramelware formed into the shape of an apple, pear or onion, or an equally organically shaped Italian Trullo. http://www.pofu.etsy.com.
Gift Ideas – Freshen up the Patio
Back at Etsy, check out DomsPottery for some of the most beautiful plant markers you could ever hope to find. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/225821296/made-to-order-10-plant-marker-medium?ref=br_feed_33&br_feed_tlp=mothers-day-gifts.
These are handmade to order and come in a variety of sizes. They are made of caramelware clay, and fired to a very high temperature in an electric kiln, then glazed before being high fired again. They can withstand everything the British weather can throw at them – from hot sunny days to freezing temperatures.
Feeling a little more flush? Perhaps your mum deserves a new bench since occasional seating in the garden does tend to get overlooked. A carefully positioned garden seat can bring an entirely new aspect to your garden. We tend to enjoy our outside space from one point of view in the cooler months ie from indoors. Stick a bench in a sheltered sunny spot to make the most of spring bulbs or an interesting vista.
Cast aluminium garden furniture has come a long way in the past few years – you can now get something to suit you whatever your style. There are metal garden benches for every taste and budget, from the traditional to sleek modern, mixed media offerings. Take a look at our range for some ideas.
And everything that goes for benches, works for occasional tables too. Our range of metal bistro tables and chairs are an inexpensive way of refreshing your outdoor living space. Let’s face it; we’re accustomed to sitting on the terrace of the local coffee bar to make the most of the spring sunshine, so why not replicate the experience at home?
